I have always felt that my middle child is the hardest for me to connect with. She's just some other kind of ethereal being that doesn't make sense to me. I love her dearly. She is an amazing kid. It's just that sometimes, she feels like a movie character or a concept or something because it's hard to picture her as a real kid.
Lately, I've found the connection point for us. We talk about the Bible. That kid gets it in a way that is just unreal for a 5 year old. I love it! We had the most wonderful conversation tonight about how sneaky David was to get away from Saul with the help of Saul's son Jonathan.
Then she asked me out of the blue as I tucked her in tonight. . . "Mommy. . . if you get eaten, will you go to heaven?"
"Um. . . well. . . if you have Jesus in your heart and your life, then yes. You will go to heaven if you get eaten."
"Well. . . I have Jesus in my heart and I love him very much."
"So, if you get eaten, you'll go to heaven."
"OK. Just checking. Good night, Mommy."
And she rolled over to go to sleep.
