How I Turned My Favorite Jeans into my Favorite Skirt (It's easy! I swear!)

So I have these jeans I love.  They are soft, they fit beautifully, the works.  And they started to get holes in the knees.  If this has ever happened to you, you know how traumatic this is.  I didn't want to throw them away, but they were starting to look pretty sorry in the legs.  So I cut the legs off.

And now my favorite pair of jeans is an awesome new skirt!  The best part is this was a SUPER simple project. If you have even the most basic of sewing skills, you can tackle this.

Simple seam on a sewing machine
Gathering (I'll show you how to do this in the tutorial- it's simple.  Trust me.)
Bias tape finishing (Optional- and I'll show you how to do this too.)

Any old pair of jeans that fits you.  If you don't have a pair on hand ($0), you can usually pick a pair up for less than $5 at the thrift store.
0.75-1 yd of woven fabric.  I like sari fabric for this, but a patterned linen or satiny fabric would work well too.  You can get a remnant or clearance piece for a couple of bucks.  I used something I had on hand. ($0-$10)
1/2" single fold bias tape (optional- $0 if you make your own, $2 if you buy premade.)
